Collect Children’s Clothing (K-3 through High School sizes) in your family, neighborhood, parish, or workplace.
Work at the Center on a Thursday or second Saturday of the month. Hours are 9 AM to Noon. Multiple work options involve: sorting, labeling, and face-to-face service with our customers.
MPS Resource Fair – A one day event, usually held in November. Work at a booth where you would give information about the Center and show what we typically provide for each student. Two people needed.
Rummage Sale Collection – Multiple rummage sales held at parochial and public schools/parishes throughout the year. Work involves going through clothing at the end of the sale and bagging appropriate items.
Lost & Found Collection – Pick up clothing at schools. Sort, wash, and label clothing.
Parish Liaison – Connect with key individuals within the parish and parish school. Solicit assistance. Options include clothing drives, Sunday 2nd collections, Christmas giving.
Book Collection – In an effort to support literacy, we have recently added book giving to our ministry. Help collect, sort, and/or arrange age/culturally appropriate books.
School Helper – Do you enjoy working with children in the school environment? New to our outreach service, there are opportunities to work with teachers & children in the Messmer “Umbrella” of schools (Messmer Prep, St. Leo’s, St. Rose). Contact Claire Wycklendt to learn more about the needs and times available.
September Opening Breakfast – Involves contact with the Milwaukee Catholic Home or another venue to reserve a date, the chapel, room for the meal. Also discuss the menu and cost with the chef. Arrange for a priest to preside at Mass. Prepare invitation & manage reservations. Decorations, nametags, and an Order of Worship needed. 4 volunteers needed.
Christmas Luncheon – Typically held at the Milwaukee Catholic Home on a Saturday in early December. Refer to September Breakfast description. Attendees are asked to bring warm gloves or jeans for the Clothing Center and a toy for the House of Peace holiday party.
3-4 volunteers needed.
Annual Fundraiser – Historically known as “The No-Party Party”. This is our main fundraiser. Held in Spring. Members are sent invitations to donate and 3 additional invitations to send to family and or friends asking them to support our mission. Assist with mailing, collecting donations, and sending acknowledgement notes to all donors. 3-4 volunteers needed.
Day/Evening of Reflection – Held during Lent. Arrange for a speaker. Arrange for a priest to preside at Mass. Contact the Milwaukee Catholic Home or another venue to reserve a date, the chapel, room for hospitality or a meal. Prepare and send invitations to members. Prepare and arrange for bulletin announcements and a notice/article for The Catholic Herald.
Prepare an Order of Worship. 3-4 volunteers needed.
Charity Chat Newsletter – Sent to members in December and June. Collect articles (President, Sr. Moderator, Fr. Mike Bertram, Clothing Center Chairs, Membership and Event Committee Chairs). Be creative? Edit, prepare layout, and mail the newsletter to members without email or no access to a printer. 4-5 volunteers needed.
Membership – Assist Membership Committee Chairs with installation of new members, meeting with interested potential members, and outreach and publicity efforts. 5-6 volunteers needed.
Directory – Following annual dues collection, use the updated membership roster (list is kept by Membership) to prepare the directory. Arrange to have the directory printed and mail a copy to all members. 2 -3 volunteers needed.
LOC Website – Are you a computer website wiz? We need your help to keep our website current.
Photographers – If you enjoy taking pictures and are available for some of the events, consider this opportunity! We need to show what we do in photos. Several volunteers could share this job.
Capuchin Walk / Run for the Hungry – Event is held the Friday of German Fest at 7 PM usually late July). Recruit an LOC team. Collect registration fee, send or hand deliver team registration form to Capuchin site, and pick up T-shirts. You do not need to do the walk as team captain.
Grant Writing – Help to write and submit grants to parish and community donors. Seek grant opportunities. 3-4 volunteers needed.
